Power-Pickups
The shaft mounted transmitter and certain types of sensor require electrical power, which may be provided by either batteries or inductive coupling. For specialised applications, photo-electric power is a third possibility.
The standard method of transferring measurement data from the rotating shaft or component is by high frequency fm modulation, inductively coupled back across the power components. In the case of battery powered transmitters, an inductive pickup type IH1 replaces the energising head IH2. For certain applications alternative infra-red, capacitive or even radio transmission techniques are sometimes preferable and suitable pickups are available as standard items. A 2.4 GHz RF-System is also available.

Photo-Electric Power
In certain marine applications, the generation of even low-level magnetic fields must be avoided. The use of a Photo-Electric technique to power the transmitter, together with infra-red data signal transmission provides the solution. Marine Torque Telemetry Prop-Shaft. Halogen Lamps and Solar Cells provide Transmitter Power. Infra-Red is used for Signal Transmission.
